Chronic Pain Treatment

Chronic pain is a prevalent and debilitating condition. Chronic pain can persist for weeks, months, and even years. This pain affects a persons quality of life, from their ability to work, move, sleep and much more. Frequently a person’s nervous system can become hypersensitive following an injury or trauma to the body. This results in an amplification of a person’s pain from muscle tension and fascial restrictions. At NeuroLogic Physiotherapy, our physiotherapists work to “settle” and “calm down” the nervous system with Myofascial Release and Craniosacral therapy techniques. Restrictions in the fascia and/or Craniosacral system can cause pain in the spine, extremities and organs. By working to relieve these restrictions through these gentle techniques, the body can release this tension and decrease a person’s overall pain. The physiotherapist may also use acupuncture and relaxation techniques, such as mindfulness, in addition to Myofascial Release and Craniosacral techniques.

Chronic pain can also result as a symptom of fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a chronic syndrome the results in generalized pain, joint rigidity, intense fatigue. In peer-reviewed journal articles, Myofascial Release has been shown to not only improve pain and quality of life in fibromyalgia patients, but also improve their sleeping patterns and their management of anxiety and depression (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3018656/).
