WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE OUR AFFILIATION WITH BOXING 4 HEALTH AND ROCK STEADY BOXING OTTAWA!
"Boxing 4 Health" started as a boxing class for seniors in June 2016 after being inspired by "Rock Steady Boxing" out of Indianapolis. Now officially affiliated with the Indianapolis organization. Boxing 4 Health has expanded to bring the organization to Ottawa as "Rock Steady Boxing Ottawa".
Rock Steady Boxing was created to help people living with Parkinson’s Disease engage in an intense exercise program to help improve their quality of life through a non-contact boxing based fitness curriculum. Since its beginning, several universities in the United States have reported and documented the improved quality of life among their boxers. Rigorous exercise has been scientifically shown to emphasize gross motor movement, balance, core strength, range of motion, flexibility, posture, gait, and activities of daily living. The evidence in the scientific studies have suggested that this form of exercise can actually slow the progression of neurological diseases and disorders!
Founder and Owner Christine Seaby is a Registered Massage Therapist that has been a part of our team at NeuroLogic Physiotherapy for several years. She was inspired by the intensive exercise treatments for Parkinson's Disease carried out at NeuroLogic Physiotherapy. Christine brings her vast knowledge of alignment, functional movement, and fascial connective tissue together with her experience as a Mixed Martial Artist to create a vigorous exercise program for senior's and people with Parkinson's Disease.
Jessica Lafonde is "Boxing 4 Health and Rock Steady Boxing Ottawa's" second instructor. Combining her experience as a senior caregiver with her years of training as a Mixed Martial Artist, Jessica provides her boxing expertise to modify and engage all participants in a program that can be customized for anybody!
We are excited about this program and look forward to collaborating and consulting with them to combine our expertise to help make it a very high quality program.
