Osteopathy
What is Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a client-centred discipline that is based on understanding the relationship between structure and function in order to enhance the body’s inherent ability to heal. It relies on skilled manual therapeutic techniques to assess and treat the client, assisting the natural self-healing properties of the human body.
Osteopathic Manual Practitioners recognize a person as an integrated whole. When all of the body’s components are in balance, a person is complete and in optimal health. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners work to maintain, improve and restore the normal physiological function of interrelated body structures and systems, assisting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Using various assessment tools and perspectives, osteopaths work to identify and release restrictions, and restore mobility of tissues to decrease pain. This improves circulatory perfusion and promotes proper function and healing in people of all ages.
How does our osteopath, Neil Melanson, approach treatment?
He uses a whole-person model in treatment to positively affect the body, spirit and mind. This includes the refined structure-functional techniques of traditional osteopathy, Myofascial Release and Somatic Experiencing, and through traditional practices of mindfulness, meditation and perceptual studies. The effect of healing is not only contained in the body, but of all the space which reverberates from that change.
